Michael J. Burg is an actor known for his work in film, television, and theater, and has been a longtime member of the Actors Studio. Born in Rock Port, Missouri, he has lived in New York City since he was 19. After graduating from The American Academy of Dramatic Arts, he pursued private acting studies with Estelle Parsons for several years.
His career began in high school as a commercial radio announcer, starting at local FM station KTRX. He soon advanced to the regional market, working with AM and FM stations KKJO and KSFT, which served audiences in Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas.
Over the past two decades, Michael has collaborated with renowned directors such as Martin Scorsese, Ang Lee, Spike Lee, Neil Jordan, Lasse Hallstrom, Bennett Miller, Niels Arden Oplev, Morgan Spurlock, Mary Harron, and Amy Poehler.
He has portrayed Truman Capote on three occasions, most notably opposite Jennifer Love Hewitt in The Audrey Hepburn Story. Interestingly, he also appeared in Capote alongside Philip Seymour Hoffman, playing Tennessee Williams, a distant relative of Capote. His scenes as Capote were ultimately cut from The Hoax. Additionally, he portrayed Capote in the ABC series Life on Mars.
Michael is engaged in independent film production, having served as an executive producer for the 2011 feature film Turbine and the 2017 feature film The Eyes.
Recent credits include the feature film Love is Strange, starring alongside Alfred Molina and John Lithgow; Comedy Central’s Broad City; the role of Detective Charley Griggs in Gotham; HBO's The Night Of, written and directed by Steve Zaillian; HBO’s Vinyl, created by Martin Scorsese, Mick Jagger, and Terence Winter; and Season 6 of Orange is the New Black.
On the festival circuit, Michael earned acclaim for his lead role in the film Awsome_FCK, with reviewers at the Toronto Film Festival praising his "haunting, near perfect performance."
He manages his paternal family's sixth-generation farmland in Atchison County, Missouri, and currently resides in New York City.
