Basil Moore, occasionally known as Basil Moore-Asfouri, is a classically trained Mediterranean-British film composer, conductor, and music producer. His passion for filmmaking led him to film producing, directing, and editing. An acclaimed artist published by Universal Music, Basil Moore has collaborated with notable figures such as Julian Fellowes, Oscar-winner Andrew Thomas Jensen, Joseph Fiennes, Ken Russell, Minnie Driver, Michael Kamen, Catherine Bailey, Clive Brill, Steve Winwood, Peter Gabriel, Kent Walwin, Ilya Salkind, Richard Harris, and Fiona McAlpine, among others. Coming from an artistic family, Basil’s dedication to filmmaking is extensive. He began drumming at age 12, became a classically trained pianist by 17, and a composer and conductor by 19. He ranked in the top 2% on his Music Conservatory entrance exams.
In his early years as an artist, Basil collaborated with his older brother, a cinematographer, to create sci-fi alien thrillers. On set, he discovered the intricate and dynamic world of filmmaking. Wandering through studios as a young composer, he immersed himself in Hollywood’s historic backlots. This environment reignited his theater roots, inspired by his uncle, a critically acclaimed, world-renowned director who crafted entire literary worlds from blank space. Basil Moore’s professional motion picture career began as a television commercial composer, working on campaigns for British Airways and Peroni Nastro Azzurro Beer while published by Universal Music Group UK.
A memorable collaboration with director Ken Russell on a satirical film about Uri Geller steered Basil toward the specialized art of film scoring.
Basil also worked with the BBC, producing, sound editing, mixing, and composing music for numerous radio dramas and shows, collaborating with talents like Joseph Fiennes, Clive Brill, and Catherine Bailey.
At the same time, he produced numerous musical artists across England and Italy.
Moore’s career flourished as he became a highly valued contributor in both commercial and independent media, working on films, shorts, commercials, and teasers—anything he could engage with.
Embracing complexity, Basil took on commissioned projects for television production companies. From this period emerged notable documentaries such as Fall of Tyranny (2003) and Terrorism (2003).
His exploration led him from straightforward documentaries to ambitious feature filmmaking endeavors. To refine his style and push avant-garde aesthetics, Moore completed over 50 TV commercials in a single year.
By the time he launched Young Alexander the Great, Basil had produced over 100 projects. His work is provocative and captivating, filling a unique space in the industry. Today, he operates as a producer, director, editor, and composer.
He joined post-production teams at Warner Brothers Television, Paramount-CBS, ABC Studios, and Starz Entertainment. Having helped secure financing for numerous projects, his skill set is geared toward delivering "ultimate projects." His current focus is to develop, produce, direct, edit, and compose epic motion pictures. Basil is developing an ambitious series of projects that aim to explore gravity, infinity, light, and love. He approaches filmmaking as groundbreaking milestones in human consciousness that also achieve commercial success. His style is heavily influenced by Cecil B. DeMille, Charlie Chaplin, Michael Curtiz, Alfred Hitchcock, Richard Fleischer, Stanley Kubrick, Lars von Trier, and Stan Lee.
