Biografia
Lucas Figueroa, a director, writer, and producer from Buenos Aires, Argentina, holds dual Spanish citizenship.
He earned the Guinness World Records Award for the most awarded short film globally with Porque hay cosas que nunca se olvidan (2008).
Over his career, he has garnered more than 500 international accolades.
Early on, he worked in post-production, editing, and music while studying Image and Sound Design at the Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA).
Lucas has filmed in over 40 countries and led international film projects with varying budgets.
He is recognized for his technical and conceptual innovation in the audiovisual field, meticulous technical execution, and versatility across genres.
In 1999, he wrote "Marrow," a feature film about a man and a cryptocurrency, predating Bitcoin by a decade and inspired by the 1990s cypherpunk movement.
He directed Prólogo (2013), which explores "The Miracle of World," regarded by many as the origin of the first "token" in 1932.
His first feature film, Viral (2013), is considered a cult classic and is studied as a business case in universities and film schools for being the first European "branded content" film, created before the financing concept existed. His second feature, Despido procedente (2017), was distributed in over 190 countries via Netflix.
Renaceres (2020), a feature shot in 8K during the pandemic, is regarded as a significant historical memory documentary of Spain.
Lucas founded Mr. Monkey, a film production company collaborating with Amazon, Apple+, Netflix, Disney, Viacom, AMC, NBC Universal, Paramount, Sony, Movistar, National Geographic, History Channel, Discovery, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, Fox, MTV, Samsung, General Motors, BP, and others.
He also serves as Creative Director of New Frequency, a company specializing in impactful documentary content. The documentary series Osel (2022), about the "Spanish lama child" and aired on HBO Max, is part of New Frequency’s production portfolio.
