Monica Arnold was born on October 24, 1980, in Oak Park, Georgia, to Marilyn Best, a church singer and airline customer service representative, and M.C. "Billy" Arnold, Jr., a mechanic. She began singing in her local church choir at the age of four. After participating in numerous talent shows, Monica was discovered by record producer Dallas Austin, known for working with major artists like TLC. Impressed by her voice, Dallas offered her a record deal with his Artista-distributed Rowdy Records label. Monica's career took off with her debut album, *Miss Thang*, which featured hit singles such as "Before You Walk Out of My Life" and "Why I Love You So Much."
Graduating from high school at sixteen with a 4.0 GPA, Monica released her second album, *The Boy Is Mine*. She collaborated with fellow teen star Brandy Norwood on the massive radio hit "The Boy Is Mine." The album also included other successful singles like "Angel of Mine" and "First Night." The duet with Brandy earned numerous awards, including Best Video of the Year and Best R&B Song. Following the album's success, Monica made appearances on various television talk shows, including *The Rosie O'Donnell Show* and *The Late Show with David Letterman*, as well as a brief role on *Beverly Hills, 90210* (1990).
In addition to her television presence, Monica was featured in numerous teen magazines such as YM, Teen People, Twist, and Teen. Expanding her talents into acting, she starred in her first feature film, *Boys and Girls* (2000), and later had a leading role opposite Charisma Carpenter in *The Twins* (2001).
