Tom Berry launched his career in the 1980s as a screenwriter and director. His notable works include Crazy Moon, featuring Kiefer Sutherland and released in American theaters by Miramax; Never Too Late, starring Olympia Dukakis and penned by Donald Martin; Screamers, distributed by Columbia Tri-Star; The Assignment, with Aidan Quinn, Donald Sutherland, and Ben Kingsley; and The Unsaid, starring Andy Garcia.
In 1984, Berry founded Allegro Films in Montreal, one of Canada’s most successful and prolific entertainment firms. He was president of Allegro from 1984 until 1997. As CEO, he led the company’s growth in production, distribution, and technical services. Allegro Films was sold and merged into Groupe Québécor in 1997.
In 2001, Berry established Reel One Entertainment / Première Bobine, now a prominent international producer, distributor, and financier of television movies. The company operates from offices in Los Angeles, London, Vancouver, and Toronto, with its headquarters in Montreal. In October 2024, Berry stepped down as CEO as Newen Studios (a TF1 Group subsidiary) and A+E became majority owners. He continues to serve as board member and chairman, maintaining leadership for Première Bobine and Champlain Media.
Berry also presides over Champlain Media, which he co-founded in 2019. This company is a leading Canadian producer and distributor of TV movies and series, based in Toronto and Vancouver. Champlain Media focuses on acquiring and creating high-quality content, especially romantic comedies, Christmas films, and thrillers.
Over his career, Berry has produced and executive-produced hundreds of films and TV series across Canada and the U.S., working closely with broadcasters and distributors worldwide. His IMDb credits include 662 producer roles, 11 acting parts, 8 writing credits, and 4 directing credits.
Beyond production, Berry has played an active role in industry associations and charitable efforts. He formerly chaired the Canadian Film and Television Production Association.
