Born in Helsinki to a Finnish mother and Sicilian father, I currently reside in Rome. I graduated in Philosophy and, during my university years, undertook an extensive and patient apprenticeship in Theater and Cinema while simultaneously deepening my skills in writing and directing techniques. I made my directorial debut in 2000 with my first feature film, "Le Sciamane" ("The Witch Doctors"). In 2004, I wrote and directed "L'amore di Màrja" ("Marja"), which garnered numerous awards, including the Golden Globe from the Foreign Press for Outstanding Director. In 2009, I wrote and directed "Il Prossimo tuo" ("Thy Neighbour"). Since 2010, I have embraced live-action 3D technology, creating Italy's first 3D short film, "Victims," followed by the first live-action 3D feature film directed by a woman, "I'M endless like the space," which was featured as a Special Event during the "Venice Days" at the 2017 Venice Film Festival. "I'M infinita come lo spazio" is also a novel, published in Italy by Il Foglio Letterario, written as a spin-off of the film and selected for the "Premio Strega" Award. As a screenwriter, I have co-written several films, including "Benzina" by Monica Stambrini (1999), "Voce del Verbo Amore" by Andrea Manni (2007), and "Gli Anni belli" by Lorenzo d'Amico de Carvalho (2020), as well as the Italian-Portuguese documentary "Rua do Prior 41" by Lorenzo d'Amico de Carvalho. In 2022, I wrote and directed the film "Gli Immortali," which is currently in post-production. Over the years, some of my plays have been staged in Italian theaters, and I have worked as a script doctor for screenplays and as a tutor for emerging directors. I am also a professor of Filmmaking and Direction of Actors at RUFA (Rome University of Film Arts). Additionally, I authored a filmmaking handbook, "The Director's Journey" (Resh Stories), which serves as the textbook for the Filmmaking and Direction of Actors courses at RUFA.
