Kristin is renowned for directing and developing the international hit Rock of Ages. In 2009, her jukebox musical earned five Tony Award nominations, including Best Direction of a Musical. She has directed productions on Broadway, the West End, Australia, Toronto, Las Vegas, and two National Tours.
Ms. Hanggi made her feature film directorial debut with Grantham & Rose, starring Jake T. Austin and Marla Gibbs. She recently directed Naomi & Ely's No Kiss List, adapted from Rachel Kohn and David Levithan's novel, featuring Victoria Justice.
For television, Ms. Hanggi adapted and directed the musical movie Dear Dumb Diary, based on the popular book series, produced by Jerry Zucker for Walden Media.
Her other notable stage works include the acclaimed pop opera bare, which played to sold-out crowds in Los Angeles and off-Broadway. bare earned Ms. Hanggi several awards, including the Ovation Award for Best Musical, LA Weekly Award for Best Musical, and the Robby Award for Best Director.
She also directed the original production that launched the Pussycat Dolls, Pussycat Dolls Live at the Roxy, featuring stars like Christina Applegate, Carmen Electra, Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera, Brittany Murphy, Nikka Costa, and Charlize Theron.
Additional stage credits include And the Curtain Rises at Signature Theater; Catch The Fish, winner of New York's Fringe Festival; Twelfth Premise (LA Times Critics Pick); the Los Angeles premiere of Terrence McNally's Corpus Christi, which received the Ticketholder Award for Best Production and Best Director, as well as the Robby Award for Best Director of a Play; and Crane, Mississippi (LA Times Critic's Choice, Backstage West Critic's Pick).
Ms. Hanggi is collaborating with Amy Heckerling to adapt the 1995 film Clueless into a stage musical.
She earned her Master’s degree from USC after completing her Bachelor’s in Theater at UCLA. In June 2013, Kristin was honored with the UCLA School of Theater, Film, & Television Distinguished Alumni Award.
