Kenneth Rance, originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, graduated cum laude in 1992 with a B.A. in Radio/Television/Film Production from Howard University's School of Communications. In 1993, he relocated to Los Angeles, California, where he began his career as an office production assistant on the FOX series "ROC." Following that, he worked as an assistant at the William Morris Agency.
In 1994, Rance joined the CBS Television Executive Management Training Program, during which he developed the M.O.W. "Cyberstalk" for Norton Wright Productions/CBS Productions and organized the inaugural CBS/WGAw Television Writers Workshop to support emerging minority writers.
By 1996, Rance sold his first screenplay, "Scary Dates," to 20th Century Fox and became a member of the Writers Guild of America. He has since served as Co-Chair of the Committee of Black Writers and as a Member-At-Large on the Committee Advisory Panel. Over the years, he has written and produced numerous film and television projects for major studios and independent companies such as Davis Entertainment, Fox 2000, Destination Films, and Universal Pictures.
Currently, alongside his professional writing career, Kenneth Rance is a Time-Warner Mentor-in-Residence at Howard University's John H. Johnson School of Communications and delivers screenwriting lectures nationwide. His latest film, "Thriller" (Blumhouse/Universal/Netflix), featuring Mykelti Williamson, Vanessa Bell Calloway, and The RZA, was released in April 2019. His debut film, "New in Town" (Gold Circle Films/Lionsgate), starring Renee Zellweger, Harry Connick, Jr., Siobhan Fallon Hogan, and J.K. Simmons, premiered in January 2009.
