Cindy Karr's father, affectionately known as "Happy," was killed in WWII, leaving her to be raised by a single mother. Her mother, an elementary school teacher in West Virginia, was advised by their family doctor to relocate to a warmer climate due to Cindy's health struggles with the cold weather. Consequently, the family moved to Florida, where Cindy flourished and discovered a passion for acting through an elementary school play. Although other career obligations initially delayed her acting pursuits, Cindy eventually became SAG/AFTRA eligible and has appeared in numerous feature films, television shows, and student films from Full Sail University and the University of Central Florida.
She guest-starred as Libby Murdaugh in "Murdaugh: Death in the Family" on Hulu and held recurring roles as Miss Francis in Netflix's "Sweet Magnolias" and Susan Widmark in "Bloodline." Cindy has earned accolades for her work in independent shorts, winning Best Actress Grand Jury Award at the NY International Film Awards for "Dance for Me" and Best Actress from the Orlando Independent Filmmakers (OIF) for "Star Cafe." Her independent feature film credits include playing Claudine Willfellow in "Unsullied," Maddie's Grandma in "Spider and Jessie," and Mrs. Bailey in "The Throwback." She has also appeared in several Hallmark movies and major studio projects such as "Tooth Fairy 2" (Fox US Production 13) as Lady Bird Billings, and the international film "Katie Fforde" (Van Womer International) as Mrs. Brighthouse, where her English dialogue was dubbed into German.
Cindy received conservatory training at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York City through their ten-week summer program, working with esteemed directors like Alice Saltzman, Ian Hersey, and Patrick Quagliano. Early in her training, she studied with Michael Shurtleff, author of "Audition," before his passing. In recent years, she has worked with coaches at the Orlando Shakespeare Theater and other notable instructors including Rus Blackwell, Lauren O'Quinn, and Avis-Marie Barnes. Since seriously pursuing acting in 2010, Cindy has performed on stage at the Orlando Shakespeare Theater, held principal roles in professional feature films, independent shorts, university student productions, television pilots, series, and numerous industrial and commercial spots — including a skydive from 15,000 feet in her early 70s.
Cindy earned a bachelor's degree in English Education from the University of Florida and a master's degree in Library and Information Sciences from the University of South Florida. She enjoyed a fulfilling career in education teaching English, humanities, special education, and serving as a school librarian. Knowing she would pursue acting more fully after retirement, she retired in 2008 and has since dedicated herself to her craft. Cindy looks forward to continuing to develop award-winning roles in A-level productions worldwide.
