David Krae is a prolific writer, script doctor, and actor's director (and occasional actor) who is deeply passionate about character, performance, and visual creativity in filmmaking, while also bringing technical production expertise to the process.
He began his journey in college theater, first at King's College in Halifax and then at Trinity College, University of Toronto. There, he acted, directed, and produced stage plays, and as a member of the Dramatic Society, he founded the Trinity College Workshop Plays program to showcase and promote student-written works.
During breaks, summers, and between classes, David gained hands-on experience working on commercials, independent films, and studio features such as Good Will Hunting and The Big Hit, taking on various roles and learning film production from the ground up. After finishing his studies, he spent time overseas as a government contractor, with stints in academia and advertising, before returning full-time to his true passion: the arts.
Following several years acting in Toronto and developing writing projects, he founded Aquila Pictures, a production company through which he began directing and producing independent films. David earned a strong reputation within Toronto's film community and built a trusted relationship with ACTRA and its Toronto Independent Productions program. He was often requested by ACTRA as a Supervising Producer, representing the Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA, formerly CFTPA) on multiple projects.
Throughout his career, David honed his skills as a writer and producer under Leonard B. Kaufman, as a director and playwright under Robin Phillips, and as an actor through scene study at the Carter Thor Studio.
As a filmmaker and writer, he has received numerous awards, including the Golden Palm Award for Best Script at the 2007 Beverly Hills Film Festival for Lucretia, a period drama about the Borgias, as well as multiple Best Feature awards at North American film festivals for the action-comedy Gangster Exchange.
In recent years, David has worked in film and television development and motion picture distribution, splitting his time mainly between Toronto and Los Angeles. He also discreetly works as a script doctor and editor, resolving script and editing challenges.
