David Worthen Brooks is an independent producer.
He founded and led 20th Digital Studio (formerly Fox Digital Studio), a division of Walt Disney Television, for fifteen years. Under his leadership, the studio created and distributed content across a wide range of new and traditional media platforms, including Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, and iTunes, as well as linear television networks such as FOX, FX, Freeform, and Fox Sports. The Digital Studio produced numerous feature films, several series, and hundreds of shorts, earning top honors at Cannes, Sundance, Tribeca, and SXSW. Brooks revolutionized branded content by fostering innovative, story-driven partnerships with major industry players like MARS Candy, National Geographic, and NASA.
Brooks has dedicated much of his career to discovering and nurturing emerging talent. He produced early projects featuring Constance Wu, Rob Savage, Thomas Middleditch, Josh Miller, Jessica Rothe, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, Christopher Leone, Marc Evan Jackson, and Josh Hartnett. Recently, he has focused on producing horror shorts, some of which have been developed into feature films, spotlighting writer-directors such as Anna Zlokovic, Justin Harding, Brandon Espy, Carl Reid, Alexis Jacknow, Shal Ngo, Kelley Kali, and Ben Steiner.
A dual US/UK citizen, Brooks earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, followed by a master's degree from the University of Southern California's Peter Stark Producing Program.
Brooks began his career as an award-winning editor, director, and screenwriter, working with notable filmmakers including Tony Kaye, Ridley Scott, Spike Jonze, Paul Hunter, Leslie Dektor, and Baz Luhrmann. His directorial debut, Member (2001), won Best Short Film at the 2001 Hamptons International Film Festival and received the International Cinematographer's New Filmmaker's Award the same year.
His creative work has been recognized by organizations such as D&AD, the Sundance Film Festival, London International Film Festival, Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival, One Show, and the Clios. Most recently, Brooks earned a Cannes Lions award with advertiser Mars for Bite Size Horror (2017), a series of short-form content for broadcast and streaming platforms.
