David T. Friendly is an Academy Award-nominated producer known for the Best Picture contender Little Miss Sunshine. With over thirty years in the film industry, he has produced more than twenty-five films and collaborated with esteemed directors such as Ron Howard, Ed Zwick, and Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris.
He executive produced the first four seasons of the TV drama "Queen of the South" for USA Network, a project he developed after acquiring the rights to the novel "La Reina Del Sur."
Friendly is also the producer and creative mind behind the highly successful Big Momma's House franchise, which has earned over $400 million worldwide.
In 2006, he founded Friendly Films. Before starting his own company, he partnered with financier and producer Marc Turtletaub to create Deep River Productions. During his six years there, he produced Little Miss Sunshine (starring Greg Kinnear and Abigail Breslin) and Laws of Attraction (starring Pierce Brosnan and Julianne Moore).
From 1994 to 1999, Friendly was President of Davis Entertainment, producing numerous films, which led to a first-look producing deal at 20th Century Fox. There, he produced Big Momma's House (Martin Lawrence), Here on Earth (Josh Hartnett), Courage Under Fire (Denzel Washington, Meg Ryan), Out to Sea (Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau), and Doctor Dolittle (Eddie Murphy).
His film career began at Imagine Entertainment, where he executive produced films like My Girl (Macaulay Culkin), For Love or Money (Michael J. Fox), and Greedy (Kirk Douglas). He rose to President of Production at Imagine, overseeing titles such as The Burbs, The Dream Team, Kindergarten Cop, and Backdraft.
Friendly started his career in journalism, becoming a staff writer for Newsweek at age 22. He later worked for The Los Angeles Times as an entertainment reporter and penned his own weekly column, First Look.
He is the son of the renowned journalist, news producer, and CBS President Fred Friendly, who was portrayed by George Clooney in the Academy Award-nominated film Good Night, and Good Luck.
David T. Friendly serves on the Board of the Producers Guild of America and produced the Producers Guild Awards in 2009 and 2010. He is also an active member of the Friends Board at The Saban Free Clinic, which offers affordable, quality healthcare to underserved populations.
