Sonia Monroy Biography
Sonia Monroy was born and raised in Barcelona, Spain, alongside six siblings, following in the footsteps of her parents in the entertainment industry. She is the daughter of Virtudes Casals, an actress, and Perfecto Monroy, an actor and opera singer. At the age of six, while her father performed plays at the renowned Liceo Theatre in Barcelona, she began her acting journey by playing the role of the Geisha's son in the opera Madame Butterfly. She studied acting and singing at the Conservatory of the Liceo for ten years.
In the early 1990s, Sonia started appearing on television as an actress in the comedy show Força Barça. In 1998, she was hired by the famous producer José Luis Moreno as a comedian for his TV series Maravillas diez y pico. In 2003, she formed her band Sex Bomb, achieving great success with the album Ven. The hit single "Ven Ven Ven" became one of her biggest successes, driving the album to multimillion-unit sales and earning a Gold record.
In 2011, Sonia starred in the horror film Serie-b, directed by Richard Vogue and produced by Olwyn Films. Her outstanding performance led to a nomination for Best Actress at the Goya Awards, the Latin equivalent of the Oscars. She has consistently worked in theater, television, and feature films, including Torrente, directed by the acclaimed Santiago Segura.
In 2013, Sonia relocated to Los Angeles, where she produced her own reality TV show, Sonia in Hollywood, interviewing numerous celebrities and attending the Oscars.
In 2015, she starred in the feature film Less Than a Whisper, directed by renowned American horror filmmaker Francis Xavier and produced by Metropolis Pictures Entertainment. For her role as Ms. Usher, she was nominated for Best Actress at the Latin awards Vive Latino America.
In 2016, Sonia wrote, directed, and starred in her own comedy, Hollywood Dream, produced by her film company Monroy's Films Productions.
She is determined to continue growing as a talented actress and film director in America.
