Horst Ebersberg, an Austrian-born actor, photographer, and champion Alpine skier, was born in Kitzbühel to Dr. Lothar Ebersberg, a physician, and his wife Annette. Both parents were accomplished alpinists, and Annette was a close associate of filmmaker Leni Riefenstahl. Although it was expected that Horst would follow his father into medicine, he excelled in sports at the Stella Matutina Jesuit School in Feldkirch, becoming Alpine Ski Master twice in 1955. With support from renowned Austrian mountaineer Heinrich Harrer, Horst secured a sports scholarship at the University of Denver, Colorado. Alongside his studies, he worked as a journalist and photographer for the Denver Post.
Between 1963 and 1969, Horst appeared as a supporting actor in numerous American films and TV series, often cast as German soldiers. He made multiple appearances as different characters in shows such as 12 O'Clock High (1964), The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (1964), Combat! (1962), Hogan's Heroes (1965), and Mission: Impossible (1966).
After returning to Europe, Horst continued his journalism career, contributing to the illustrated magazines Quick and Bunte. He retired to Kitzbühel in 1990. From 2007 to 2011, he published his own newspaper, the Kitzbüheler Beobachter. Horst was married twice and had two daughters, Hannah and Miriam Ebersberg, with his second wife, Sabine (née Opperer).
