Charlene deGuzman, born and raised in San Jose, California, spent her early years as a competitive dancer before relocating to New York City to pursue magazine journalism. However, she soon returned to performing, appearing Off-Broadway and in the national tour of STOMP. Now based in Los Angeles, Charlene first gained recognition through her Twitter account @charstarlene, earning a spot on Rolling Stone's list of the "Funniest People on Twitter Right Now." She then wrote and starred in several short films, with her most popular, "I Forgot My Phone," amassing over 51 million views on YouTube and receiving coverage from The New York Times, USA Today, Time, NPR, Good Morning America, Vice, The Today Show, and others. In 2016, with support from indie filmmaker Mark Duplass, she successfully crowdfunded her debut feature film, "Unlovable," in which she stars alongside John Hawkes and Melissa Leo. "Unlovable" premiered at SXSW in 2018, earning special jury recognition, and was later acquired by MGM's Orion Classics for theatrical and VOD release. Variety praised her performance as "arresting and engaging," while IndieWire highlighted her "full-force charm and talent," calling her "a star in the making.
