Re'Shaun Frear, an award-winning independent film and TV producer, has been creating movies and television programs for over seven years. Born in West Hills, California, he is recognized as one of the most innovative collaborators in the independent film and TV industry. Frear attended Calabasas High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communications from Chaminade University of Honolulu, Hawaii. A U.S. Army Veteran of Desert Storm, he began his entertainment career specializing in licensing and accounting at The Walt Disney Company. By 1999, he joined Warner Brothers Studios' Latin American Division consumer products department, later moving to the WB Network as a television analyst, where he expanded his TV and film expertise.
Frear further developed his career at Gotham Entertainment, known for feature films such as Martin Lawrence's *Run Tell Dat*, *You So Crazy*, *A Thin Line Between Love and Hate*, and Jada Pinkett-Smith's *Woo*. While at Gotham, he contributed to projects including *Spiritual Warriors*. His dedication and creativity earned him the trust of the company’s owners, leading to a partnership with Michael Hubbard and David Raynr to form Bright Idea Entertainment.
Transitioning fully to independent films, Frear produced the critically acclaimed 2006 film *Dirty Laundry*, starring Loretta Devine and Rockmond Dunbar. The film won the Blockbuster Audience Award for Best U.S. Feature at the American Black Film Festival (2006) and received nominations for Best Independent Film from the NAACP Image Awards and the GLAAD Awards (2007). He also produced *Black Poker Stars* (2008) featuring Katt Williams and Anthony Anderson, which became the #1 show on Black Entertainment Television (BET).
Frear’s film and TV projects have earned numerous awards and nominations. In February 2013, his film *Pastor Brown*, starring Salli Richardson and actor/director Rockmond Dunbar, premiered on Lifetime TV. Despite competing with Beyoncé’s HBO documentary, *Pastor Brown* captivated Lifetime’s audience, becoming the #1 cable movie with 2.2 million viewers. Other films produced by Frear include *Christmas in Compton* (2012) with Eric Roberts, Keith David, Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Omar Gooding; *PAWN* (2013) starring Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker, Nikki Reed, Common, and Stephen Lang; *Home* (2014) featuring Gbenga Akinnagbe, Joe Morton, and Tawny Cypress; and *Knucklehead* (2014) starring Academy Award nominee Alfre Woodard and Gbenga Akinnagbe.
Re'Shaun Frear divides his time between California and New York to accommodate his film and television projects as well as public speaking engagements.
