Josh Margulies was born under a full moon in Nepal and raised in Hawai'i. He is an award-winning comedic and romantic actor. As a child, he enjoyed staging plays with his brother in front of the large glass window during family gatherings. He gained recognition for his quirky breakthrough role as the lead in the comedic TV pilot "Surreal Estates," where he portrays a scientist and ghost hunter. This pilot was showcased at Cannes in 2019 and earned runner-up for Best Ensemble in 2021. Though comedy is his specialty, Josh also shines in drama; in 2018, he won Best Supporting Actor for his role as a concerned father in the indie drama "Sand Angels." The comedy pilot won Best Pilot at the 2016 Sunset Film Festival in Los Angeles. He also stars alongside Dylan McDermott in Fox’s hilarious series "LA to Vegas." Margulies appeared in "The Artist" (Best Picture 2012) and debuted at the Hollywood Fringe Festival that same year, winning Best Actor in a Comedy for his portrayal of a zany alien. More recently, he led as a James Bond/Indiana Jones-type hero in "The Lost Treasure" and played a father in the family comedy "Caralique." Afterward, he traveled to 17 countries in 7 months before returning to acting. He currently resides in Paris, France, with his talented director wife and their two young daughters.
A signature slapstick romantic character he created in college, Raphael Dumtaro, has been perfected in productions like "Raphael Dumtaro" and "Wild Warrior of Love." In 2022, Margulies starred in the independent feature "Lost Treasure," available on Amazon and other streaming platforms. He plays Eddie Fox, a suave treasure hunter and adventurer blending traits of the fourth Doctor Who, a spacey Sherlock Holmes, and the athletic poise of James Bond. The film, shot entirely on 1962 O'ahu just after Hawaiian statehood, follows a quest for mystical power.
Josh is also an award-winning producer alongside his partner, French director Stella Tinucci. His heritage includes Welsh, Russian, Polish, and French roots. An avid traveler, big wave seeker, and world surfer, he was born in Nepal under a full moon, held by Mother Teresa, and raised in Hawaii. His father, Edward Margulies, a Johns Hopkins-trained doctor, traveled extensively during his residency and met Josh’s mother, Sherry Nohonani Allen, who was doing missionary work in Nepal.
Josh’s acting debut occurred in college when he starred as Sam Spade in a remake of "The Maltese Falcon," originally played by Humphrey Bogart. He is a confident, playful, and rugged actor, often portraying roles such as best friend, playboy, or guy’s guy. His diverse characters have included physicians, bartenders, coaches, CEOs, and stockbrokers. His acting style is bold yet approachable.
In addition, Margulies has written a feature-length script and a book about his family history, focusing on his grandfather, who was honored by President Clinton for his contributions during World War II. This story is set in the Japanese-occupied Philippines during the war.
