Richard trained at the renowned Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, where he received the Newton Blick Award for Outstanding Achievement. He is best known for his work on children's television, featuring in numerous regular and recurring roles across various series, including Mr K in thirty episodes of The Mysti Show (CBBC) and Sir Gestion in twenty episodes of the BAFTA-nominated Sir Gadabout: The Worst Knight In The Land.
His other credits include George Bland in MI High, Dirk Searcher in Jinx, Cosmos in The Roman Mysteries, Stuart in Living It, Mr Simms in My Parents Are Aliens, and Nelson's Dad in My Spy Family. Additional children's TV appearances include Dani's House, Mighty Truck Of Stuff, and Too Many Gods. His broader television work encompasses Love Hurts, Pie In The Sky, MacGyver, Drop The Dead Donkey, Bliss, Oktober, Crossroads, Murder City, Casanova, Filth: The Mary Whitehouse Story, Life Of Riley, Doctors, The Jury, and Eastenders. Notably, he portrayed Officer Orrin in twenty-four episodes of Gerry Anderson's Space Precinct.
In film, Richard acted alongside Helena Bonham Carter in Great Expectations, starred with Hollywood icon Burt Reynolds in A Bunch Of Amateurs, and appeared with Monty Python members as Geoffrey Weasel in Terry Jones' Wind In The Willows. Other film roles include parts in A Lover's Prayer, Julius Caesar, Penelope, Stormbreaker, The Wolf Man, and Foster.
On stage, Richard has played Alex in Outside Edge at Derby Playhouse and both Doctor Mortimer and Inspector Lestrade in The Hound Of The Baskervilles at New Victoria, Newcastle-Under-Lyme. He has toured the UK in the two-man show Thunderbirds FAB and, more extensively, with the Birmingham Stage Company, undertaking various roles in their Olivier-nominated Gangsta Granny, which culminated in a sold-out run at London's Garrick Theatre, as well as portraying Aunt Alberta in Awful Auntie. He also toured UK arenas in Grandpa's Great Escape alongside Nigel Planer and was an Off-West End Awards Finalist for Best Supporting Performance for his roles in A Sherlock Carol at The Marylebone Theatre.
Richard has recorded multiple audio dramas for Big Finish Productions, including the roles of Rembrandt in Doctor Who: The Waters Of Amsterdam, Sergeant Ballard in Doctor Who: The Incherton Incident, and alien talk show host Jeremy Vile in Terrahawks: Vile.
As a writer, Richard has authored nearly thirty plays, all published by Lazy Bee Scripts, many of which have won awards globally. As a novelist, he has penned a Victorian detective series titled Bowman Of The Yard, along with several science fiction novels inspired by the worlds created by the legendary TV producer Gerry Anderson.
