Beth Nielsen was born in Harlington, Texas, on September 14, 1958. She began writing songs at the age of 11. While performing in clubs in Mobile, Alabama, she met Bruce Johnston of The Beach Boys, who encouraged her to move to Nashville to advance her career. In 1980, shortly after marrying Ernest Chapman, she released her debut album, "Hearing it First." Their son, Ernest Chapman Jr., was born the following year. Beth penned songs for numerous artists, including Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Tanya Tucker. She also wrote top-10 hits for artists such as Trisha Yearwood, Highway 101, and Don Williams. Her second album, "Beth Nielsen Chapman," came out in 1990, followed by "You Hold the Key" in 1993. That same year, her husband was diagnosed with a rare lymphoma, and his passing in 1994 inspired her 1997 album "Sand and Water," which gained significant attention. She received a Grammy nomination in 1998 for co-writing "This Kiss," performed by Faith Hill. In 2000, Beth faced her own battle with breast cancer and emerged victorious, releasing "Deeper Still" in 2002. Her music has featured in several film soundtracks, such as The Prince of Egypt (1998), Message in a Bottle (1999), and Calendar Girls (1999), as well as TV shows like Dawson's Creek (1998), Touched by an Angel (1994), Providence (1999), and Felicity (1998). Her most recent album, "Hymns," was released in 2004.
