Cas Anvar, whose career took off with the debut of the "fan favorite" series The Expanse, continues to pursue a varied path that many actors aspire to. After his acclaimed performance on Amazon Prime’s hit show alongside Shohreh Aghdashloo, Steven Strait, Wes Chatham, Frankie Adams, and Dominique Tipper, Anvar moved on to a series of notable roles in both television and film. In 2020, he appeared opposite Viola Davis in the final season of How to Get Away with Murder, a role that earned him recognition as a strong contender for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.
Anvar has since demonstrated his versatility across multiple projects. This year, he stars in the films Viper (2025), written and directed by Marc Furmie, alongside Peter Facinelli, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Neal McDonough, Stephen Dorff, Nathaniel Arcand, and Jimmy Jean-Louis, as well as Weight of Darkness (2025), also directed by Furmie, featuring Jaime King, Doug Jones, Angus Macfadyen, Corbin Bernsen, and Angus Benfield. He also appears in Lily Singh's provocative comedy Doin' It (Aura Ent.), which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and is scheduled for a US theatrical release on September 19.
Recently completed is the independent feature Foreign Tongue, a romantic comedy infused with magical realism that explores the absurdities of daily life while offering an authentic portrayal of a world we all pretend to understand. In this Boris Mojsovski-directed 2026 release, Anvar plays 'Faroukh,' delivering a performance full of depth and nuance.
Audiences may also recognize Anvar from his work in Veena Sud’s The Lie (Blumhouse), starring opposite Peter Sarsgaard, Mireille Enos, and Joey King, as well as the 16th-century Indian period film Draupadi Unleashed (Passion River Films), which previewed at Cannes. He starred in the international spy thriller The Operative, produced by Vertical Entertainment, with Diane Kruger and Martin Freeman; the film premiered at the 2019 Berlinale to strong reviews.
On television, Anvar guest-starred in FBI: International (2021), showcasing his ability to transition effortlessly between prestige drama, comedy, and intense action. Other notable TV appearances include Lifetime’s Gwen Shamblin: Starving for Salvation (2023). He has guest-starred in series such as The Strain, NCIS: LA, Intelligence, In Plain Sight, Leverage, 24, Castle, and led Syfy’s 2015 series Olympus. Additionally, he co-hosted PBS’s 2015 Christmas Special to critical acclaim.
Born in Canada and a graduate of Montreal’s esteemed National Theatre School (considered Canada’s equivalent of Juilliard), Anvar first gained widespread attention for his role as Kambiz Foroohar in the Cruise/Wagner film Shattered Glass, which received four Spirit Award nominations and a Golden Globe nod. His film credits also include Argo (which won the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance), Source Code with Jake Gyllenhaal, The Factory with John Cusack, and Steven Spielberg’s The Terminal, featuring Tom Hanks, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Stanley Tucci.
Anvar is also an accomplished stage actor, having performed numerous leading roles in Shakespeare’s greatest plays. He founded and served as producing artistic director of Montreal’s Repercussion Theatre, the city’s Shakespeare-in-the-Park touring company. Fluent in English, French, and Farsi, he attributes his broad creative perspective to his cultural and spiritual heritage. He divides his time between Toronto and Los Angeles.
