Leyla Selen Uçer was born in Istanbul and completed her education at Private St. Georg Austrian High School. Following in the footsteps of her parents, who were Chemical Engineers, she graduated from Boğaziçi University with a degree in Chemical Engineering.
During her university years, Selen Uçer engaged in theater activities with Boğaziçi Players and took part-time voice lessons at Istanbul University State Conservatory. She also studied for about a year at Akademi Istanbul before moving to the USA to pursue a master's degree in theater and acting. She received a scholarship to attend Roosevelt University in Chicago. While there, her play "Dream in New York (American Dream)" was performed Off-Broadway by Ensemble Theater.
After returning to Turkey in 2004, Selen Uçer taught Improvisation, Comedy and Character Development, and Voice Use for Acting at Yeditepe University's Theater Acting Department. She also led workshops at Boğaziçi University’s Mithat Alam Film Center.
Selen Uçer appeared in the "Cinderella" segment of the film Narrated Istanbul, which features five distinct stories: The Pied Piper of Fareli Village, Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Little Red Riding Hood. The film premiered on March 11, 2005.
She participated in DOT's production of Insect, a contemporary in-yer-face play. Her performance in Haldun Dormen’s Kanto Player at Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality City Theatres earned her a nomination for the Afife Jale Award for Most Successful Musical/Comedy Actress in a Supporting Role.
In the 2008 film Ara, written and directed by Ümit Ünal, Selen Uçer starred alongside Erdem Akakçe, Betül Çobanoğlu, and Serhat Tutumluer, winning the Best Actress award at the 15th Adana Golden Boll Film Festival for her role as Gül.
In 2015, she won the 20th Sadri Alışık Theater and Cinema Actor Award for Most Successful Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance in the play Kursiki.
Selen Uçer directed the play All Women Are Confused in 2016, receiving the Best Director award at the İsmet Küntay Theater Awards.
In 2018, she portrayed Nilgün in the TV series Big Big Lies on Kanal D, sharing lead roles with Hakan Yılmaz, Evrim Alasya, Pelin Öztekin, Ferdi Sancar, and Rüzgar Aksoy.
In 2019, Selen Uçer played Serpil Zengin in the TV series Leke, starring alongside Burak Sevinç, Melis Sezen, Tolga Güleç, and Tuğçe Açıkgöz.
