Andrzej Zielinski (born October 14, 1962, in Tarnow) is a Polish actor known for his work in film, theatre, and television. Fluent in both Polish and English, he has gained recognition for roles in films such as Roman Polanski's "The Pianist," Robert Enrico's "Vent d'est" (Wind From East), and Stanislav Kapralov's "Egregor."
Zielinski excels in portraying psychologically complex characters, including a villain in "Extradition 2," an intellectual in "A Grain of Truth," and a psychopathic gangster in "Inverted." He is adept at playing law enforcement roles, as seen in "Manhunt," "Black Mercedes," the series "WPack" as commander Konrad Markowski, and as a CIA agent in "Operation Samum." Considered one of Poland's most talented actors, he has appeared alongside international stars such as Adrien Brody, Malcolm McDowell, Rutger Hauer, Ron Silver, and Roy Scheider, as well as Polish luminaries like Krystyna Janda and Agata Kulesza. His personal charm, distinctive looks, wit, and sarcasm have earned him admiration from audiences, directors, and producers alike.
Graduating in 1986 from the Acting Department of the State School of Theater in Cracow, Zielinski has resided in Warsaw for many years. He has performed at the J. Slowacki Theater in Cracow and the Ateneum Theater in Warsaw. Since 2001, he has been a member of the Wspólczesny Theater in Warsaw. His notable stage roles include Wiktor in "Bambini di Praga" and Osip in "Untitled Art," both directed by Agnieszka Glinska, as well as Claudius in "Hamlet," directed by Maciej Englert. He has earned numerous acting awards, including three Feliks Warszawski awards for best leading male roles—for Lilek Czech in Tadeusz Konwicki's "Ascension," adapted and directed by Maciej Englert; for the Captain in "Pretending a Victim," also directed by Englert; and for the role of A Stroncylow in "People and Angels," directed by Wojciech Adamczyk. Additionally, he received the Aleksander Zelwerowicz award for portraying Fomicz Opiskin in Fyodor Dostoyevsky's "Your Excellency," directed by Izabella Cywinska, and was honored in 2006 by the monthly "Teatr." Zielinski is a three-time winner of the Sopot Festival of the Polish Radio Theater and the Polish Television Theater "Two Theaters."
His film debut came with "Holidays with Madonna." Two years later, he appeared in "Yesterday," which won the FIPRESCI award at the Venice International Film Festival and the Golden Shell at the San Sebastian International Film Festival. He has since played significant roles in films such as "Havet Stiger," "Gold Of Deserters," "Quo Vadis," "We Are All Christs," "Crown Witness," "Volta," and "Mr. T." In 2021, he returned to an English-speaking role in the American-Ukrainian production "Egregor."
Zielinski is also active in voice dubbing for films and video games, lending his voice to characters such as Febus in "The Hunchback of Notre Dame," James Bond in "Quantum of Solace," and Darwin in "Crew G."
Living in Warsaw, Zielinski maintains a low profile, focusing on his craft. He enjoys a quiet life on the city's outskirts, has a passion for cooking and animals, and spends leisure time skiing in the mountains and visiting his favorite European city, Rome.
