Carlos Alberto López is a Venezuelan actor born in Caracas who was raised in both Venezuela and the USA. He is the son of Lourdes Sifontes, an attorney, and Alberto López Tabares, a mechanical technician from Spain.
Coming from a family of immigrants, he embraced a free-spirited lifestyle, living in various countries including the USA, Finland, Spain, and Puerto Rico, which he now considers his permanent home. His international experiences enabled him to learn multiple languages, such as English, Finnish, some Russian and Italian, alongside his native Spanish.
He began studying Accounting at Andrés Bello Catholic University in Caracas and completed his degree at the University of the Sacred Heart in San Juan, Puerto Rico, earning a BBA with a major in Accounting and a minor in Transportation Management. Additionally, he participated in the Arctic Studies Program at the University of Lapland in Rovaniemi, Finland.
López explored his passion for acting by performing in several university plays in Venezuela, Finland, and Puerto Rico.
His international Hollywood debut came with the role of The Camera Samaritan alongside Milla Jovovich and Steve Zahn in A Perfect Getaway (2009). His next significant film was The Rum Diary (2011), adapted from Hunter S. Thompson's novel, featuring an all-star cast including Johnny Depp, Giovanni Ribisi, Aaron Eckhart, Richard Jenkins, and Amber Heard. López portrayed The Union Leader of The San Juan Star newspaper. Later, he appeared in Showtime's TV series Homeland (2011) as a corrupt money laundering banker, acting alongside Rupert Friend.
He also featured in Speed Kills (2018), starring John Travolta, playing a Panamanian drug dealer. The film is based on the life of speedboat racing champion and multimillionaire Ben Aronoff, who leads a double life that brings him into conflict with law enforcement and drug lords.
López is well known for his roles in numerous Puerto Rican films, including Orfanato de cafres (2009), Qué Despelote! La película (2010), Witness: El Testigo (2011), ¡Que Joyitas! II (2013), Reggaeton the Movie (2013), All for Sara (2014), Back to the Beginning (2015), Los Domirriqueños (2015), Andrea y Lorenzo (2016), Yo Soy Un Político (2016), and Vico C: La vida del filosofo (2017).
As a short-film producer, he collaborates with Angel Janer (Director-Writer-Producer), and their films have received numerous awards at international film festivals. Their works include Reggaeton Zombie (2012), Vergüenza impedida (2013), Voces por un Mundo Mejor (2014), Los Reyes del Barrio (2013), El Deseo (2015), Macharran (2016), Hey (2016), and Divina (2017).
On radio, López is recognized for hosting and producing programs on 1140AM, such as Despierta conmigo, Sin Gringolas, and the long-running De Todo un Poco.
