Before attending NYU, Valentina Caniglia was already filming internationally. She was featured in Vogue's article "Meet the Cinematographers Behind Some of the Biggest Movies" after being recently selected by the ASC Vision Committee to receive the prestigious ASC Vision Mentorship Award. Valentina is renowned for her expertise in lighting and camera work on films, TV series, commercials, and music videos such as The Stand. She won the Best Cinematography award at the Louisiana International Film Festival for her work on the period film Madeline's Oil.
As the cinematographer for Pomegranates and Myrrh, she earned the Golden Dagger for Best Cinematography at the Muscat Film Festival. The film also premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and won Best Film at the Doha Tribeca Film Festival. Among her other notable works, Caniglia’s exceptional cinematography on the black-and-white feature Adieu Lacan, starring David Patrick Kelly, won Best Cinematography at the Cult Critic Movie Awards (CCMA). Her film Soyka won Best Cinematography twice at the New York Cinematography Awards and Canadian Cinematography Awards.
Her work on Fire In Water earned her the Best Cinematography award at the Los Angeles Film Festival and was featured in Teen Vogue’s article on cinematographers behind major films. Caniglia is also celebrated for her evocative frames in Without Grace, starring Emmy winner Ann Dowd; the remarkable cinematography in 3 Days Rising, featuring Mickey Rourke, Ice-T, and Peter Greene; her outstanding work on Tape, directed by Deborah Kampmeier (Clarice, Queen Sugar, Tales of the Walking Dead, Virgin, Hounddog) and starring Isabelle Fuhrman; and the striking visuals in the video Stand for a Change, starring Vanessa Williams and Billy Porter.
Her beautiful cinematography is showcased in the Apple TV+ series Dear X Season 2, featuring Viola Davis, Ava DuVernay, Jane Fonda, Sandra Oh, André Leon Talley, and Selena Gomez, as well as the latest TV series The Captain, directed by Randy Wilkins and executive produced by Spike Lee and Mike Tollin (Eureka Entertainment). Valentina’s exceptional lighting and camera work can also be seen as additional cinematography on the Netflix original series Gypsy, starring Naomi Watts.
Valentina Caniglia directed The Amytal Therapy, which was nominated for Best Director at both the Chelsea Film Festival and the London International Film Festival. She has worked as a cinematographer for HBO, Netflix, Voyage TV, and Showtime. Her portfolio includes numerous nationally aired commercials for British Airways, Ford Motor Company, Nike, and GBX Shoes, the latter winning a Telly Award. She has also contributed to music videos for Aesop Rock, which reached number one on MTV’s Top Ten Chart; Enzo Gragnaniello; The Roots; Articolo 31; and The Stein. Valentina Caniglia holds dual citizenship in the EU and the USA.
