Era Garafovna Ziganshina was born on February 1, 1944, in Kazan, Tatarstan, USSR. Between 1960 and 1963, she studied acting at the Shchukin Theatre School in Moscow, then continued her studies under Georgi Tovstonogov at the Leningrad Institute of Theatre, Music, and Cinematography, graduating as an actress in 1965.
Since 1965, Ziganshina has been a permanent member of the Lenkom Theatre troupe in Leningrad, now known as Theatre Baltiysky Dom in St. Petersburg, Russia. In the 1990s, she performed successfully at the Theatre of Roman Viktyuk in Moscow and appeared on stages at various theatres in Moscow and St. Petersburg, touring across Russia. Her stage partners included actors such as Roman Gromadskiy, Igor Dmitriev, Tatyana Piletskaya, Alla Balter, Irina Konopatskaya, Klavdiya Belova, Nadezhda Maltseva, Regina Lialeikite, Natalya Popova, Nataliya Nesterova, Yulian Panich, Emmanuil Vitorgan, Aleksandr Slastin, Igor Tikhonenko, Vladimir Tykke, Peter Shelokhonov, and other prominent Russian actors.
Era Ziganshina holds the title of People's Artist of Russia and received the Stanislavsky State Prize of Russia in 1997. She currently teaches acting in St. Petersburg, Russia.
