Brian O'Carroll, an Irish producer, director, and director of photography based in New York City, recently completed the short films ACE (directed by Timothy Zakerin), a fast-paced Neo-Noir seen through a child's eyes, and LAST FAIR DEAL (directed by Nicholas Gray), a proof-of-concept exploring Blues legend Robert Johnson's legendary deal with the Devil, which is slated to become a feature film. He co-produced and was the cinematographer for BLUE CAPRICE (directed by Alex Moors), which premiered at Sundance and was acquired by IFC; it also received an Independent Spirit Award nomination. He worked on the 35mm doc/drama feature ALL THE BEAUTIFUL THINGS, which also premiered at Sundance, and shot second unit on THE YELLOW BIRDS (directed by Alex Moors), which won Best Cinematography at Sundance. Additionally, he produced H8RZ, filmed in Salt Lake City, and is currently developing various indie features and TV dramas.
With a background spanning a decade in shooting news, conflict, science, and human condition documentaries, Brian brings insight and authenticity to his cinematography. He collaborated with Ruan Magan to create the short film ANGEL, which won Best Short Film at several festivals, including the Milan Film Festival. Following that, Brian and Ruan produced four episodes of THE MEN WHO BUILT AMERICA for the History Channel.
Brian has been honored three times with the Emerging Cinematographer Award by the International Cinematographers Guild for CHERRY BLOOM, 8 FOR INFINITY, and ANGEL. He also shot CONVENTIONEERS, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and won a Spirit Award.
With extensive experience across documentaries, commercials, broadcast spots, music videos, shorts, and indie features as a cinematographer and increasingly as a director and director of photography, Brian remains passionate about storytelling. His distinctive, personal style combines reverence for the craft with inventive techniques.
He owns two Alexa cameras, a Mini LF, and a collection of exceptional lenses.
