Torben Skjødt Jensen was born in 1958 in Ålborg and studied film at Copenhagen University from 1978 to 1981. He made his video debut at Det Danske Videoværksted in 1983. In 1984, he co-founded the production company ATC and later established Englefilm. As one of the pioneers of video art in the 1980s, Torben produced over 100 music videos during this time. In 1986, he moved to Copenhagen, and in 1990, he achieved a breakthrough with the drama-documentary "It's a Blue World," about Danish artist Hans Henrik Lerfeldt, which won first prize at the San Sebastian Film Festival in 1991. Following this success, Torben produced the rock documentary "Som et Strejf" in 1993, which was screened in cinemas and aired multiple times on national TV. His 1996 portrait documentary "Min Metier," about renowned Danish director Carl Th. Dreyer, was nominated for a Bodil Award and won a Robert Award for Best Documentary of the Year. In 1997, his portrait documentary "Den grimme Dreng" became one of the most viewed non-British documentaries on the BBC. In 1999, his latest documentary, "Simons Film," about the famous Simon Spies, was scheduled to be broadcast on national TV in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. After years of working on music videos, short stories, documentaries, and portrait films, Torben Skjødt Jensen planned to release his first full-length feature film, "Manden som ikke ville dø," starring Lars Simonsen, Stina Ekblad, and Ghita Nørby, in February/March 1999.
