Roz Michaels' parents were first-generation Americans, with grandparents who immigrated from Italy and Hungary. Her father, Michael, earned a comfortable living as a painting contractor and was an avid gardener, winning numerous awards for his roses. Her mother, Myra (née Pusty), was born in Pennsylvania. When she was just six months old, her father died in a coal-mining accident. Raised in Bayonne, Myra met and married Mike, working in retail fashion as a buyer and manager. Roz has one sister, Carolyn. She attended Our Lady of Victories Catholic Grammar School, then went on to Henry Snyder High, graduating in 1965. Instead of attending acting school as her parents initially suggested, she enrolled at the Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City. Her first marriage, to a childhood sweetheart, resulted in three children: Michael, Scott, and Bruce. After eleven years, they divorced. She later married a Canadian and moved with her children to Ontario, just east of Toronto. Although performing had been a lifelong passion, she didn’t pursue it until her mid-thirties when a friend encouraged her to audition for a local play. She landed a role and discovered the missing piece of her personal fulfillment: performing. Her stage work gradually transitioned into film, which became her profession. Though she started late and progressed slowly, it has been an incredible journey. Since 1991, she has been remarried to her soulmate, Tony, and they relocated to Toronto in 1997.
