Narelle Ahrens is a New Zealand actor, voice-over artist, singer, and Foley artist who has been professionally active since graduating from Victoria University of Wellington in 1995 with a BA in Theatre & Film and English Literature. She has appeared in over 30 television and film productions, notably earning a Best Actress nomination at the NZ Film Awards for her role in the internationally acclaimed short film "I'm Going to Mum's," which premiered at the Berlinale International Film Festival. More recently, she starred as DeeDee Blancharde in the US TV series James Patterson's "Murder Is Forever."
Narelle has an extensive theatre background across New Zealand, performing at venues such as Bats Theatre, Downstage, Circa, and the Fortune Theatre in Dunedin. Highlights include starring in two celebrated New Zealand premieres: the award-winning "The Love of HumanKind" by Brian Sergent at Circa Theatre and "The Paradise Package" by Geraldine Brophy at the Fortune Theatre.
Her screen training includes work with renowned tutors like Perry Piercy, Tina Regtien, Diana Rowan, and Vicky Yiannoutsos. She also studied the Meisner Technique under Michael Saccente, which led to summer training at New York’s prestigious Neighborhood Playhouse in 2004. Recently, she has been invited to masterclasses with distinguished figures such as Stuart Devenie, Fiona Samuel, Jennifer Ward-Lealand, and Miranda Harcourt.
For over 20 years, Narelle has been a member of New Zealand's top girl group, The BeatGirls, performing nationally and internationally, including as the headline act for Sports Illustrated and Holden at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
Beyond acting, Narelle is a sought-after voice-over artist for short films, radio, and television, recognized as a voice for some of New Zealand’s largest brands. She is also among the country’s most experienced Foley artists, contributing to feature films like Lord of the Rings and numerous popular New Zealand TV shows, telefeatures, and short films, including Outrageous Fortune, Westside, Fresh Eggs, and The Deadlands since 2001.
