Originally from the small country town of Gulgong in NSW, Australia, Ros Gentle began her journey with a childhood study of music. She initially pursued a career as a primary school teacher in Sydney, performing folk music in clubs and wine bars at night. While training in acting to enhance her stage presence, she discovered her true passion and returned to school. As a graduate of the National Institute for Dramatic Art (NIDA), Ros has amassed over 40 years of experience across all facets of the performing arts, including coaching, producing, and directing. Her theatre work features roles in Grey Nomads, The Sum of Us, Big River, The Wizard of Oz, All's Well That Ends Well, Othello, Bitter Sweet, The Seagull, Escape From Happiness, and The Arab Israeli Cookbook, as well as four solo performances: The Bridal Suite, Face of an Angel, The Ladychapel, and Still Life.
In Australia, Ros mainly appeared on television in series such as Picnic at Hanging Rock, Neighbours, Home and Away, GP, Mother and Son, A Country Practice, Land of Hope, Young Doctors, and The Restless Years. She is perhaps best known for her role in the cult TV drama Prisoner (Cell Block H), where she portrayed Laura Gardiner, a shy librarian with multiple personalities, including the tough-talking prostitute Brandy Carter.
Having lived in the United States for 30 years, Ros has recently appeared on television in The Young and the Restless, High Desert, Dahmer, American Horror Story, Our Flag Means Death, Wild West Chronicles, as well as ACS: People Vs OJ Simpson, Lucifer, Agent X, and Hello Ladies. Her upcoming film projects include Nightbitch with Amy Adams, Unsung Hero, and Bring Her to Me. Her past film credits include Unborn, Of the Devil, Tomorrow's Game, Becoming Bond, and Suing the Devil alongside Malcolm McDowell.
While acting remains her true love, Ros is deeply committed to fostering a better future for coming generations. She has been teaching Psychology of Performance at the New York Film Academy for the last 12 years.
