Romane Portail grew up in Orléans, France. At 16, she joined the Conservatory of Dramatic Arts of Orléans under Jean-Claude Cotillard, training there for three years. She then auditioned successfully for ENSATT, the National Drama School of Arts Theatre, one of France's most prestigious acting schools, chosen as one of only twelve actors from 800 applicants. Awarded a three-year French State scholarship as a promising talent, she relocated to Paris after graduation. There, she starred in numerous lead roles in classical plays like Voltaire’s 'L'ingénu' (The Huron), directed by Arnaud Denis, and contemporary works such as 'Les Montagnes Russes' alongside Bernard Tapie. This play, originally performed years earlier with Alain Delon and Astrid Veillon, toured across Europe before concluding at the Comédia Théâtre in Paris, where it was nationally broadcast on Paris Premiere.
Romane’s work extends to film and television, with credits including 'Simple question de temps' opposite Line Renaud; 'Mallory' with Philippe Caroit; and 'Falco' alongside Sagamore Stévenin. Recently, she collaborated with The Wachowskis (known for The Matrix Trilogy and V for Vendetta) on the second season of the Netflix series 'Sense8'. In cinema, she appeared in 'Le fils de Jean' by Philippe Lioret, starring César Award winner Pierre Deladonchamps. Romane divides her time between Paris, Los Angeles, and London as she builds her international career. She played the lead role of Alix in the English-language digital series 'Urban Jungle', produced by Studio +, and portrayed Natalya, head of a special forces unit, in 'Fearless', produced by Blackpills.
More recently, Romane was cast as Coco Chanel in the second season of the popular TV series 'Frankie Drake Mysteries', a role she reprises in the miniseries 'La Garçonne', produced by France Télévisions. She also secured the role of Severine Bloch, a French Cold War spy, in the highly anticipated TV series 'Spy City', starring alongside Dominic Cooper. Produced by Miramax and written by acclaimed author William Boyd, the series will be broadcast internationally.
