Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine will next star opposite Anne Hathaway and Adam Driver in Ron Howard's upcoming Amazon MGM Studios feature film Alone at Dawn and is now filming Season 2 of the Paramount+/Showtime series Dexter: Resurrection, reprising his breakout role as Blessing Kamara. Both projects are expected to premiere in 2026.
Mwine recently earned widespread critical acclaim for his transformative portrayal of Freddy Fasano in Dennis Lehane's Apple TV+ crime drama Smoke, starring opposite Taron Egerton. Critics singled out Mwine as one of the series' standout performers, further cementing his reputation for bringing extraordinary depth and complexity to psychologically demanding characters.
Mwine previously starred opposite Rachel Weisz in Dead Ringers, Alice Birch's Peabody Award-winning adaptation of David Cronenberg's 1988 thriller for Amazon. He also portrayed Detective Raymond Griggs in Netflix's hit legal drama The Lincoln Lawyer, developed by David E. Kelley and Ted Humphrey and based on Michael Connelly's bestselling novels.
His extensive television credits include his acclaimed portrayal of Ronnie in Lena Waithe's The Chi. In 2020, the Los Angeles Times named Mwine one of Sundance's breakout stars. That same year, he received the Best Actor Award at the Durban International Film Festival for his lead performance in Ekwa Msangi's acclaimed feature Farewell Amor. His work was also praised by both Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, the latter writing that "Mwine stuns with his elegant pauses and piercing stares that seem to jump through the screen." The film was later named one of the National Board of Review's Top Ten Independent Films of the Year.
Mwine's film acting credits also include Mira Nair's Queen of Katwe, opposite Lupita Nyong'o and David Oyelowo, and Edward Zwick's Blood Diamond, opposite Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Connelly.
As a filmmaker, Mwine has earned international recognition for both narrative and documentary work. His award-winning short film Kuhani received the top directing prize for Best Achievement in Directing at the Oscar-qualifying International Kurzfilmtage Winterthur in Switzerland and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize for Best Short Film at Slamdance.
His documentary feature Memories of Love Returned was named one of OkayAfrica's "Ten Best African Documentaries of 2024." Executive produced by Steven Soderbergh, the film chronicles the life and work of acclaimed Ugandan photographer Kibaate Aloysius Ssalongo. The documentary has screened on five continents and won multiple Best Documentary awards at film festivals around the world.
