Jeff Kleeman earned a B.A. in English from Yale University. He curated exhibits at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and led the Story Department at Carolco.
In 1987, Jeff joined Paramount Pictures as a development and production executive, working on films such as "Internal Affairs," "The Hunt for Red October," "Shirley Valentine," and "Star Trek 6." He also developed "Deep Cover," which was later produced and released by New Line.
By 1991, Jeff became Vice President of Production at Francis Ford Coppola's American Zoetrope, contributing to "Bram Stoker's Dracula," initiating Tim Burton's "Sleepy Hollow," serving as Associate Producer on "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein," Co-Producer on "Kidnapped," and Executive Producer on "Haunted" and "The Titanic."
In 1993, Jeff moved to MGM/UA as Executive Vice President of Production. There, he led the revival of the James Bond franchise with "Goldeneye," "Tomorrow Never Dies," and "The World is Not Enough." He also oversaw development and production of "Rob Roy," "Hackers," and "The Thomas Crown Affair," and managed the acquisition of "Leaving Las Vegas."
During his time at MGM/UA, Jeff developed projects including "Cold Mountain," "Heartbreakers," and "The Pink Panther."
In 1999, Jeff left MGM/UA to collaborate with Robert Redford on strategies for Sundance Entertainment Ventures and served on The Sundance Channel's Board of Directors.
In 2004, Sony Pictures Animation hired Jeff to write the story for "Hotel Transylvania."
In 2005, he co-created and showran "Misconceptions," a multi-camera sitcom for The WB.
In 2006, Jeff wrote "Roll With It," a single-camera comedy for Fox Television.
In 2007, he penned a one-hour drama pilot titled "Sleeping Beauty" for ABC, working with Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick, and returned to MGM/UA as Executive Vice President of Motion Picture Production.
In September 2008, Jeff became President of Big Kid Pictures alongside David Dobkin.
In 2010, Jeff wrote a one-hour pilot for Warner Bros. Television based on the film "Time After Time" and Executive Produced "The Change-Up," released by Universal on August 5, 2011.
He served as Executive Producer on the single-camera half-hour series "Friends With Benefits," which aired on NBC in 2011.
Jeff was also Executive Producer on Warner Bros.' feature "The Judge," set for release in October 2014.
He contributed as a writer on Guy Ritchie's "The Man From U.N.C.L.E." feature, released by Warner Bros. in 2015.
In August 2012, Jeff became President of Ellen DeGeneres's company, A Very Good Production, overseeing three series slated for 2015 release and a web series streaming in Fall 2014.
Jeff teaches graduate courses on film development, production, and the studio system at USC Cinema School. He has lectured at Yale, UCLA, Northwestern, various film conferences, and taught at Film Independent's Screenwriter's Lab.
He has chaired Film Independent's Spirit Awards Nominating Committee and served on the boards of The Sundance Channel, IFP West, and The Los Angeles Film Festival Advisory Committee. Additionally, he has been a judge for the International Thriller Writers Best Screenplay Award.
Currently, Jeff chairs the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Screening Committee.
He is a member of The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, The Writers Guild of America, The Producers Guild of America, The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, and The British Academy of Film & Television Arts.
