Michel Côté is a French-Canadian actor best recognized for his role in the comedy Broue and the television series Omertà. He was born in Alma, Québec, Canada, and graduated from the National Theatre School of Canada in 1973. He is well known for his appearances in TV shows such as La Petite Vie and Et Dieu créa... Laflaque. Since 1972, he has been married to Véronique Le Flaguais, and they have two sons: Maxime Le Flaguais (born in 1983), known for films like Tentacules 8, Le Retour de la Chose, The Sands, and Turn Off Before Living, and Charles Côté.
In 1979, Michel co-founded the comedy troupe Broue alongside Marc Messier and Marcel Gauthier. He also played a key role in persuading Jean-Marc Vallée to shoot the film C.R.A.Z.Y. (2005) in Montréal rather than in the United States. For his performance in C.R.A.Z.Y., Côté won the Genie Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
Coming from a modest background, he pursued classical studies and enjoyed acting in amateur theater. Together with Marc Messier and Marcel Gauthier, he became a central figure in the touring comedy Broue, which remains highly successful even after more than three decades. The show runs from October to April, allowing him to film movies between May and September.
Over the course of his career, Michel Côté has played various roles in television series, most notably the Omertà trilogy and La Petite Vie. His film credits include Le Dernier Tunnel, C.R.A.Z.Y., De père en flic, and Liste noire. He has received numerous accolades, including a Gémeaux Award in 1999 for his work in Omertà, a Genie Award for Best Actor, and a Jutra Award for Best Supporting Actor. He is married to Véronique Le Flaguais and is the father of two sons, Charles and Maxime.
