Jurij Drevensek was born in Maribor, Slovenia (then Yugoslavia). He is a well-known Slovenian actor recognized for his work in film and theatre. He graduated in acting from the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television at the University of Ljubljana. Shortly after graduating, he earned his first professional recognition by being cast in the leading role of Moritz in Frank Wedekind's Spring Awakening. Since then, he has performed in over forty theatre roles across various Slovenian theatres, including many leading roles such as Hamlet in William Shakespeare's Hamlet, Jörgen Tesman in Hedda Gabler, Macbeth in Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Max in Martin Sherman's Bent, and Jack in Eugene Ionesco's Jack, or the Submission, among others. In 2012, he was selected to participate in Berlinale Talents, and in 2009, he took part in Sarajevo Talents. His work has earned him multiple awards, including the Vesna Award (Slovenia’s equivalent of the Oscar), the Borstnik Award (Slovenia’s equivalent of the Tony Award), the Tantadruj Award, and the Dnevnik newspaper award. Formerly a member of the Ljubljana City Theatre ensemble and the Slovene National Theatre in Maribor, he now works as a freelance artist, seeking new and daring projects that challenge his acting abilities and allow him to explore fresh and exciting creative avenues. Since 2017, he has hosted the Bob leta satirical awards ceremony, broadcast on national television. Starting in 2020, he has also hosted the podcast Spilferderber on the Slovenian national radio station Val 202, featuring prominent figures from his generation. Additionally, he is among the founders of the newly established Screen Actors Guild of Slovenia.
