Diana Bustamante Escobar, both a filmmaker and programmer, studied cinema at the National University of Colombia. Over the years, she has significantly contributed to the international acclaim of Colombian cinema by producing films such as The Wind Journeys by Ciro Guerra (Un Certain Regard, Cannes 2009), Crab Trap by Oscar Ruiz, winner of the 2010 FIPRESCI Prize in Berlin, La Playa DC (Un Certain Regard, Cannes 2012) by Juan Andrés Arango, The Towrope by Willian Vega (Directors' Fortnight, Cannes 2012), Los Hongos by Oscar Ruiz-Navia (Locarno 2014), and more recently Violencia by Jorge Forero (Forum, Berlinale 2015). She also produced César Augusto Acevedo's debut film, Land and Shade, which premiered at the 54th Semaine de la Critique, winning the France 4 Visionary Award before receiving the Caméra d'Or. Her production company, Burning, has produced Greatest Hits by Nicolas Pereda, Refugiado by Diego Lerman (Directors' Fortnight, Cannes 2014), and Buy Me a Gun by Julio Hernández (Directors' Fortnight, Cannes 2018). From 2014 to 2018, she served as the Artistic Director and chief programmer of the Cartagena International Film Festival (FICCI). Recently, she has participated in various festivals and jury panels, including Sarajevo (SFF), Buenos Aires (BAFICI), Amsterdam (IDFA), Semaine de la Critique, and Ficunam.
Currently, she is leading the production of Apichatpong Weerasethakul's Memoria and Tomás Corredor's Noviembre, alongside several personal installation art projects and the development of an experimental editorial line.
