Jay Thakkar is an Indian film actor known for his versatility, longevity, and consistent presence across cinema, web series, advertising, and television. Beginning his journey as a child actor in 2004, he has spent over two decades evolving as a performer across genres and platforms, establishing himself as a dependable and nuanced actor in the Indian entertainment industry.
With a career spanning more than 21 years, Jay has appeared in over 500 advertising films, 25+ feature films (Indian and international), and 60+ television shows and web series, making him one of the most experienced multi-platform actors of his generation.
In cinema, Jay has featured in a wide range of roles across genres and platforms. His recent theatrical releases includes movies like- Bhool Chuk Maaf, a romantic comedy film produced by Maddock Films starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, and Kapkapiii, a horror-comedy film featuring Shreyas Talpade and Tusshar Kapoor. These projects marked a significant phase in his transition into more performance-driven theatrical roles.
Jay has also worked internationally, appearing in the Russian feature film Rodina, where he portrayed one of the primary characters as 'Ramish'. He has taken on challenging negative and unconventional roles as well, including a psychopathic antagonist in Sony Liv's Adrishyam, further expanding his acting range.
He is also widely recognized for his performances in acclaimed projects such as Gullak (TVF), UP65 (Season-1 and Season-2) and Ek Duje Ke Vaaste 2, where his work has been noted for emotional authenticity and relatability. Earlier in his career, he gained popularity as Cheeku in Gutur Gu, India’s first silent comedy series, which showcased his strong command over physical and expressive performance.
His television body of work includes notable shows such as Laagi Tujhse Lagan, Uttaran, Pavitra Rishta, Ghar Ki Baat Hai, Ishaan (Red Chillies Entertainment), The Adventures of Hatim, Suryaputra Karna, and Mauka-E-Vardaat, among others. Several of these projects required intensive physical transformation and elaborate prosthetic makeup, reflecting his commitment to character immersion.
Beyond acting, Jay holds a strong academic background. He is a Maharashtra State Board 12th HSC topper (94%) and has completed his graduation in Mass Media, followed by a Master’s degree in Mass Communication / Filmmaking from Mumbai University. His academic training complements his keen interest in filmmaking disciplines such as cinematography, editing, post-production, dubbing, production design, and art direction.
Known off-screen for his discipline and fitness-oriented lifestyle, Jay actively trains in CrossFit, calisthenics, boxing, and combat arts. He is also an animal lover and remains deeply family-oriented.
