From performing on stages nationwide to starring in some of television’s most popular sitcoms, and creating, writing, and producing award-winning digital content, multitalented actor, comedian, writer, and director Mike Cabellon is rapidly establishing himself as a rising star in Hollywood.
This spring, Cabellon reprises his fan-favorite role as Chief Strategist Tommy Tomás in season two of NBC’s hit comedy series "Mr. Mayor," alongside Ted Danson and Holly Hunter. Created by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, "Mr. Mayor" follows a retired businessman (Danson) who runs for mayor of Los Angeles to prove he’s “still got it.” After winning, he must define his values, earn the respect of his toughest critic (Hunter), and connect with his teenage daughter—all while trying to succeed in America’s second-weirdest city. Season two of "Mr. Mayor" premieres on NBC on March 15, 2022. Other acting credits for Cabellon include Netflix’s "Orange Is the New Black," HBO dramedies "High Maintenance" and "Crashing," as well as guest roles on NBC’s "New Amsterdam" and Netflix’s "Luke Cage."
Cabellon is also an active performer, director, producer, and writer with the award-winning Story Pirates, a nationally acclaimed group of top comedians, musicians, best-selling authors, and educators who create inspiring content celebrating children’s imaginations. Their flagship program, the "Story Pirates Podcast," has been downloaded over 35 million times and consistently ranks among the top three kids and family audio shows worldwide. The podcast has won multiple iHeartRadio Podcast Awards, a 2020 Webby Award, and featured guests such as Billy Eichner, Bowen Yang, Dax Shepard, John Oliver, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The Story Pirates have released three critically acclaimed books, several award-winning albums, and offer live-streamed classes, a weekend radio show, and a wide range of videos and entertainment designed to foster creativity in children at home.
In comedy, Cabellon and his sketch team GEIL have appeared on FunnyOrDie and Adult Swim, producing numerous sketches and two acclaimed web series: "Early to Rise" (2020) and "Night Crew" (2018). "Early to Rise" was selected for the 2021 Slamdance Film Festival and won the Audience Award at the 2020 SeriesFest. "Night Crew" premiered on Comedy Central’s digital platforms after being an official selection of the New York Television Festival, where they secured a development deal with Comedy Central. Cabellon has performed across the country at venues and festivals including the Del Close Marathon, Comedy Hack Day, Austin Sketch Fest, Frigid Fest (part of the U.S. Association of Fringe Festivals), UCB’s 3x3 Tournament, NYC Improv Festival, and even a paid corporate improv show on the Las Vegas Strip at age 16.
A proud first-generation Filipino American, Cabellon was born in California’s Bay Area and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. He discovered his passion for comedy early, staying up late to watch "Late Night with Conan O’Brien" and stand-up specials on Comedy Central. Attending a magnet high school with a TV production major, he learned to produce, direct, shoot, and edit film and TV as a teenager. Simultaneously, he pursued improv comedy with a local troupe weekly until graduating high school. Cabellon then studied Advertising and Public Relations at Loyola University Chicago, producing and starring in multiple student films. After graduation, he moved to New York City to focus on acting and writing, studying improv and sketch comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade, creating sketches and digital series, and booking commercials and guest roles on television. His New York tenure included five consecutive seasons with the BoogieManja sketch show, delivering a new sketch production monthly at the PIT Theater. In 2019, Cabellon relocated to Los Angeles to pursue his Hollywood career full-time and landed the role on "Mr. Mayor" that same year.
Cabellon’s last name rhymes with Babylon, grab a swan, crab and prawn, slab of flan, drab chiffon, or lab/salon. He currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
