Himani Shivpuri is an esteemed Indian actress known for her versatile and impactful roles in Hindi cinema and television. Hailing from Dehradun, Uttarakhand, she completed her early education at The Doon School and D.A.V. College, earning a degree in Organic Chemistry. Influenced by her father, a Hindi teacher and poet who wrote under the pen name Shailesh, she developed a passion for drama early on. She later trained formally at the National School of Drama (NSD), graduating in 1982.
Starting her career in theatre, Shivpuri quickly gained recognition for her expressive performances. She debuted in films with Ab Ayega Mazaa (1984) and became known for her strong presence in both parallel and mainstream cinema. Her filmography includes art films like Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda (1992) and Mammo (1994), alongside popular Bollywood hits.
Primarily a character actress, she has delivered memorable performances in acclaimed films such as Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), Anjaam (1994), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), Koyla (1997), Pardes (1997), Daag: The Fire (1999), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... (2001). More recent works include Umrao Jaan (2006), Nanu Ki Jaanu (2018), and Binny and Family (2024).
