జీవిత చరిత్ర
Raz Mesinai's productions have consistently amazed and inspired thousands of artists worldwide across diverse fields such as experimental and contemporary music, dub, dubstep, experimental hip hop, free jazz, noise, drone, electronic music, and Dancehall.
His project Badawi (1996-2011) played a key role in shaping a musical style for film and media focusing on horror and crisis in the Middle East. Additionally, his duo with John Ward, Sub Dub, was instrumental in sparking the "illbient scene" in 1990s New York City.
Raz's 1999 album, Badawi: The Heretic Of Ether (Asphodel), served as a foundation for the score of Ridley Scott’s blockbuster Black Hawk Down. He pioneered and coined the term "Score Design," referring to the conceptualization and production of temporary and underscore music for films with complex requirements. This approach led him to work on major films such as Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain, Black Swan, The Wrestler, and more recently, Yaron Zilberman’s A Late Quartet.
In 2004, Raz earned the prestigious Sundance Composers Lab Fellowship, collaborating closely with Sundance directors and receiving mentorship from renowned composers including John Adams, Osvaldo Golijov, Thomas Newman, Ed Shearmur, and Jeff Beal. This experience paved the way for him to compose original scores for numerous documentaries and feature films.
Raz has been commissioned by esteemed institutions such as The Lincoln Center Festival, Carnegie Hall, Kronos Quartet, Ethel, The Kitchen, and others. He has officially remixed artists like Burning Spear (Sub Dub), Shackleton (Badawi), and Arto Lindsay (Sub Dub).
For over 15 years, Raz has taught master classes in music production, sound design, and film scoring at UCSD, The New School, Dub Spot, and NYU. He currently works exclusively with the UPA.
Raz is the CEO of the sound design company Myth & Sound, co-owner of the transmedia production company Dub Fiction, and co-runs the record labels Silo Rumor with Jonathan Uliel Saldana and The Index with Dave Q.
