MATT JOHNSON is a two-time Emmy Award-winning Showrunner, Executive Producer, and Writer with more than 30 years of experience across film, television, stage, and international live events. He was the Showrunner and Head Writer for the acclaimed "Kitten Bowl" franchise on Hallmark Channel and served as Co-Executive Producer for its spin-off "Cat Bowl" during its first two seasons. Collaborating with Amblin, NBC/Universal, and Toniebox, Matt recently wrote the upcoming audio-drama series "Jurassic Park: Camp Cretaceous" and "Secret Garden," both set to premiere in 2025. He is also developing a new scripted franchise with the same partners, planned for release in over 50 countries in conjunction with World Cup 2026. His forthcoming projects include "Tee's Pot's," a feature film he created and co-wrote for Hallmark Channel, celebrating adoption and Chinese tea pottery.
Matt previously chaired the Diversity & Inclusion committee for the Producers Guild and has served for the past two years on the Television Academy Honors Committee, which recognizes programming that inspires and promotes social change. Among his recent achievements is a Network Executive role as Senior Director of Production and Operations at PBS Southern California, where he led award-winning documentary and family programming, with the production team earning 7 Emmys and 19 LA Press Club Awards during his tenure.
His career also features leadership on productions for The Grammy Awards, Formula 1 Las Vegas, Riot Games global events, Billboard Music Awards, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, and Super Bowl campaigns for Fortune 500 clients at Deutsch LA.
Notable films in his portfolio include "Manipede," "Butterflies," "True Fiction," "Final Call," "The Goth Next Door," "Chalk," and "Texas." He collaborated with Bruce Willis and Weimar Pictures on the documentary feature "Bruce Willis: Why The Legend Never Dies," which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival and was distributed by VOX Germany. Additionally, he produced the award-winning PBS documentary special "The Greatest Bond," highlighting the impact of service dogs on military veterans.
In 2024, Matt marked over 20 years as Founder and Executive Director of "New Frequency," a contemporary radio drama company known for sold-out performances and over 200 original audio episodes for SiriusXM, including six albums.
A native Texan and son of a WWII veteran, Matt's educational background includes studies and degrees from the University of Texas and the Royal National Theatre of London.
