జీవిత చరిత్ర
Mi-sen Wu was born in Taipei, Taiwan. He earned his BFA in filmmaking with Magna Cum Laude honors from City College, City University of New York, in 1995. His thesis film, Van Gogh's Ear, featuring Beat Generation poet Allen Ginsberg, garnered the most awards ever received by a single film at the university, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Cinematography, and Best Editing. In the United States, it also received accolades from the Chicago Film Festival and New York Expo Showcase. In Taiwan, the film made a significant impact by winning Best Film at the annual Golden Harvest Award. In 1998, the Taipei Film Festival selected only twenty short films throughout Taiwan’s cinematic history for special screenings to highlight key milestones, including Ang Lee’s Fine Line and Mi-sen Wu’s Van Gogh's Ear.
In 2000, supported by a national film grant, Wu completed Fluffy Rhapsody, a narrative feature about a man whose daily experiences—job searching, intimacy, dental work, infidelity, and idleness—are shaped by the subtle pains of aging and fear of death. The film presents a passionate exploration of the body from a distinct perspective, showcasing Wu’s unique visual style once again. Fluffy Rhapsody was invited to numerous international film festivals, such as the Pusan International Film Festival’s "New Currents" section, the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival’s "New Chinese Beats" section, and the Göteborg International Film Festival. The following year, it earned Wu another Best Film award from the Golden Harvest Award.
Wu’s first full-length feature, Drop Me a Cat (2002), portrays the desolation and emptiness of youth and explores the struggle to control one’s destiny at the turn of the millennium. The film won Best Production Design and received a nomination for Best Music Score at the Golden Horse Film Awards. Wu’s extensive work also includes documentaries, experimental films, animation, multimedia stage productions, TV commercials, and music videos. In 2006, he completed his second full-length feature, Amour-Legende, starring Yosuke Kubozuka. This complex, amnesiac drama, also funded by a national grant, won the Platinum Award at WorldFest Houston and Best Sound Design at the Golden Horse Awards.
Wu is currently working on his fourth feature film, 3KW2Y.
