Mark began his work in film at the age of 19 in 1988. His first years were spent in horror, working in low budget art departments for Fangoria Magazine’s trilogy Mindwarp (1991), Children of the Night (1991), and Severed Ties (1991), and on films such as Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989). He also worked as an EFX tech and puppeteer on the cult classic Army of Darkness (1992). Many of Mark’s early projects as a production designer were stories of hard luck realism set in bleak desert landscapes and trailer park poverty, including Fox Searchlight’s Nobody's Baby (2001), CBS’s See You in My Dreams (2004), and Showtime’s Edge of America (2004), Just a Dream (2002), and The World's Fastest Indian (2005).In 2005, Mark designed his first Disney Channel Original Movie, Buffalo Dreams (2005). Since then he has designed more than two dozen Disney Channel Original Movies, including High School Musical 2 (2007), Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie (2009), Teen Beach Movie (2013), High School Musical (2006), and High School Musical 3: Senior Year (2008), as well as Zombies (2018), Zombies 2 (2020), Zombies 3 (2022), Descendants (2015), Descendants 2 (2017), Descendants 3 (2019), Descendants: The Rise of Red (2024), and the Netflix series Julie and the Phantoms (2020). These projects have earned him Emmy and ADG nominations. His musical projects with directors Paul Hoen and Kenny Ortega grossed billions for Disney. Mark and his husband of 28 years, Jesse Walker, split their time between Salt Lake City and Vancouver, Canada.
