Javi Mulero - Biography
"This actor has the power to make the theater come alive." - Welton Jones, San Diego Union-Tribune
"Mulero delivers a remarkable transformation as a man who, devoid of love, endures the unforgiving trials and effects of time." - Laurie Winer, LA Times
"One of the surprises of this stunning, lush production is how much one roots for him as one would for life itself. Portrayed by the captivating Javi Mulero, he embodies both charisma and ruthlessness, seduction and repulsion. Just when you dismiss him, there is an almost hypnotic urge to draw him back, if only to see what outrageous act he will commit next." - Nancy Churnin, LA Times
Born in El Condado, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Javi Mulero began his acting career in Chicago, IL, performing in plays and industrial films after completing his university studies. There, he obtained two of his initial acting Union cards and secured an agent in Los Angeles, to which he relocated three and a half years later.
His first speaking TV role was in an early episode of "Doogie Howser, M.D.," showcasing his bilingual skills in English and Spanish. Concurrently, he participated in various Equity workshops at the Mark Taper Forum (LA) and South Coast Repertory (Costa Mesa, CA), under the guidance of the late Stanley Soble and Martha McFarland, respectively. Subsequent TV appearances included roles in "Hunter," "Murder, She Wrote," "Super Force," "E.R.," "Resurrection Blvd," "Matlock," as well as several pilots and movies of the week.
Theater remained a constant passion, leading him to perform in full productions at venues such as the Mark Taper Forum, Taper Too (John Anson Ford), South Coast Rep, Bilingual Foundation of the Arts, Sierra Repertory, Dallas Theater Center, Arizona Theatre Company, and Pasadena Playhouse.
He originated roles in two Humana Festival productions at Actors Theatre of Louisville: 'Nelson De la Luna' in "Cloud Tectonics," which he later reprised at La Jolla Playhouse, Playwrights Horizons (NYC), and Santa Fe Stages; and the enigmatic lead 'Zhao' in the comedy "Natural Selection." Javi also toured for seven months in the Pulitzer Prize-winning "Anna in the Tropics," performing in Dallas, Tucson, Phoenix, and the iconic Pasadena Playhouse in California. Additional productions of "Anna in the Tropics" included performances in Sonora, CA; the Hippodrome in Gainesville, FL; the Open Fist Theater in LA; and with Bonnie Franklin's Classic Contemporary American Plays.
Javi has never missed a performance.
His notable TV guest appearances include "NYPD Blue," "Ironside," "NCIS," "The Ghost Whisperer," "Cane," and "Bosch: Legacy," among others such as "Reyes y Rey" and "Four Corners." He featured in the opening segment of the sci-fi film "Tremors 3" and the recent festival favorite and musical film "Calle de la Resistencia," which ran for 12 weeks at Caribbean Cinemas in Puerto Rico. He has worked alongside Jimmy Smits, Dennis Franz, Angela Lansbury, Ann-Margret, Sonia Braga, and Mimi Rogers on television.
Javi trained in the Meisner Method with Joanna Sanchez; studied Shakespeare with Barbara Gaines in Chicago; and completed a 10-month Shakespeare Master-Class with the late Lynn Redgrave.
In addition to acting, Javi is a writer with several plays workshopped and produced. He is a member of the Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights (ALAP), SAG-AFTRA, and Actors’ Equity Association (AEA).
