జీవిత చరిత్ర
Wolf Bauer, born in Stuttgart in 1950, studied Journalism and Art History at the universities of Munich and Berlin. He began his career in 1976 as a political features writer for the ZDF program "Kennzeichen D."
In 1980, Bauer joined UFA Film- und Fernsehproduktion as an editor and producer, becoming executive producer in 1991. He served as CEO of the UFA Group from 1991 to 2015 and as Co-CEO from 2015 to 2017. Since FremantleMedia's establishment in 2000, he has been on the board of this global production company, which is the international production division of the RTL Group, including UFA. Under his leadership, UFA evolved into a highly efficient production group with eight subsidiaries, steadily strengthening its market-leading position as a content creator in Germany. Between 1991 and today, the Group increased its turnover more than 30-fold.
As head of UFA, Bauer co-founded Grundy UFA in 1991 with Reg Grundy, a pioneer in Australian game shows and daily dramas. Alongside Mike Murphy, they developed Grundy UFA into Europe’s largest daily drama producer. In 1992, he introduced the "daily drama" genre to Germany with "Gute Zeiten, Schlechte Zeiten," followed by the telenovela "Bianca – Path to Happiness" in 2004. In 1998, he partnered with Prof. Nico Hofmann and Ariane Krampe to establish teamWorx, now Germany’s leading producer of high-quality TV movies and event-style fiction.
The UFA Group expanded its entertainment repertoire in 2000 following the merger of UFA’s parent holding with Pearson TV and the subsequent formation of the RTL Group. To address entertainment production, GRUNDY Light Entertainment was launched. In 2002, Bauer further grew the Group by acquiring a majority stake in Phoenix Film. In early 2008, he co-founded UFA Cinema with Thomas Peter Friedl, Prof. Nico Hofmann, and Dr. Jürgen Schuster, serving as CEO and producer.
Responding to the media landscape’s digital transformation, Bauer transitioned UFA from a traditional television producer to a content creator offering innovative multimedia solutions. This approach serves major German channels and a wide array of new partners. His vision is to build a 21st-century entertainment company focused on original intellectual property exploitative across all platforms. This transformation led to the creation of UFA Brand Communication, the group’s eighth label, and UFA Lab, a development hub for new media content.
Since 2001, Bauer has been a member of Deutsche Bank’s Advisory Board East. He played a key role, alongside other producers in the film20 lobby group, in establishing a central representation for German producers. This effort culminated in the founding of the German Producers Alliance (Allianz Deutscher Produzenten) in March 2008, where he served on the joint board until April 2012. Additionally, he has been a member of the Bertelsmann Foundation’s board of trustees since 2008.
