Valerie Loo is a US-based, Singaporean actress best known for her role as 'Nicole' on Ryan Murphy's Hulu Anthology Series, American Horror Stories. Valerie is fluent in English and Mandarin, and will next be seen in a leading role in Jessica Liu's debut feature film, Better Life, opposite Jim Lau, Randall Park, Ming-na Wen and Margaret Cho. She will also be starring in the independent feature Hollywoods, directed by Serena Reynolds. Valerie previously had guest roles on Paramount+'s Criminal Minds reboot, Amazon Prime Video's Countdown, as well as CBS's S.W.A.T., and also had an appearance in Paramount+'s The Thundermans Return. She can also recently be seen in a supporting lead role as Hannah Li in the Lifetime feature, Killing The Competition, opposite Melissa Joan Hart, as well as the lead in JDG Entertainment's miniseries How to Fall In Love. Earlier this year, Valerie starred as the lead of the short film Killing Jar by Etzu Shaw, which premiered at Tribeca Film Festival as part of Season 5 of Indeed and Hillman Grad's Rising Voices program and is now streaming on Hulu. She trained at Graham Sheils Studios, Nikolai Guzov Acting Studio, and The Groundlings, and participated in the Sundance Director's Labs in Utah as part of the Actor Ensemble. There, she collaborated with director Yuan Yuan on her feature Late Spring, developed during the Lab. Following this, Valerie starred in Malum, the 2023 re-imagining of the critically acclaimed 2014 genre film Last Shift.
Valerie was born and raised in Singapore, before moving to Phoenix, Arizona in 2013, where she attended Arizona State University. She earned her Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry and did oncology and immunology research at the ASU Institute of Biodesign. Prior to coming to the US, Valerie gained recognition in Singapore on the fourth season of the nationally televised singing competition, 'Campus Superstar', and finished at seventh place during the Live Shows. While attending graduate school in 2018, she was scouted by a local modeling agency in Phoenix, which inspired her to move to Los Angeles in 2019. In October 2020, she starred alongside singer, Pink Sweats, as the female lead in his Music Video for the song 'At My Worst', which reached global acclaim with over 200M views.
Though she doesn't pursue it professionally, Valerie grew up doing ballet, Chinese dance, and modern dance, and thus enjoys movement and is able to pick up choreography swiftly. This led to her being cast in the leading role of two dance-related short films: 'Dancing in a Forbidden World', written and directed by fellow Singaporean Val Tan, as well as Megan Lee's 'En Pointe', which premiered at DisOrient Film Festival, LA Shorts, and Burbank International Film Festival in 2023.
