Christopher Rich, best known to television audiences as the dim-witted anchorman Miller Redfield on Murphy Brown (1988), has built a successful career across television, film, and theater. Born in Dallas, Texas, Rich began acting in high school plays in the Rio Grande Valley, encouraged by a teacher to channel his rebellious energy into acting rather than protesting the Vietnam War. He pursued acting further at the University of Texas and earned a master's degree in theater arts from Cornell University. After moving to New York, Rich performed on stage, notably portraying Dionysus in The Bacchae on Broadway, along with numerous off-Broadway and regional productions. To finance his theatrical projects, he joined the cast of Another World as Alexander "Sandy" Cory, a role he played for four years. Later relocating to Los Angeles, Rich appeared in many television series, including the acclaimed ensemble on Murphy Brown and as a series regular on The George Carlin Show. His film credits include The Joy Luck Club, where he played John Milius' character’s husband, Flight of the Intruder alongside Danny Glover and Willem Dafoe, and the indie film Prisoners of Inertia with Amanda Plummer. Rich has also featured in numerous TV movies, such as Going Home opposite Jason Robards in one of Robards' final roles. He portrayed a villain and produced The Gambler IV, marking his first collaboration with Reba McEntire and cementing their friendship. Additionally, he starred in and produced In the Line of Duty: Manhunt in the Dakotas with Rod Steiger. Rich currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Eva Halina Rich, a former Miss Poland and Olympic gymnast who competed at the 1980 Moscow Olympics. In his free time, he enjoys collecting fine wines, playing golf, and collecting and reading books.
