Joan Lynch is a multiple award-winning producer and senior media executive who has built award-winning divisions across broadcast news, digital streaming, premium sports storytelling, and national journalism initiatives.
For almost two decades, Lynch has held senior leadership roles at ABC News, Yahoo, ESPN, and WorkingNation, guiding content organizations through periods of industry transformation and shaping programming across broadcast, digital, long-form documentary, and live platforms.
At ESPN, Lynch served as Vice President & Executive Producer of Content Development, overseeing a broad portfolio of documentary, live, and original programming. She supervised development across dozens of series and specials, including 30 for 30, Sport Science, SportsNation, the World Series of Poker, and major live event productions. Under her leadership, ESPN’s long-form storytelling division entered a period of significant creative expansion and national recognition. Projects developed during her tenure earned multiple Peabody Awards, numerous Sports Emmy Awards, Gracie Awards, and international film festival honors. ESPN received its first Primetime Emmy nomination during this era, and Lynch was named one of the Most Powerful Women in Cable for her leadership in launching and scaling 30 for 30, a franchise that helped redefine modern sports documentary filmmaking.
As Chief Content & Programming Officer at WorkingNation, Lynch built and led a national journalism and film division producing documentaries, digital content, magazine features, podcasts, live events, and written journalism focused on economic transformation and the future of work. She oversaw an award-winning team of journalists, filmmakers, and social media professionals, leading editorial strategy and national distribution across CNN, CNBC, PBS, NPR, ABC Owned Television Stations, Univision, Fortune, and other major platforms. The organization earned an Emmy Award under her leadership. She also served as principal fundraiser, securing millions in foundation grants to support national content initiatives. Lynch became a recognized media specialist on workforce transformation, presenting at the National Governors Association and other major forums, and was quoted in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and other leading publications.
Earlier in her career, Lynch spent twelve years at the ABC News network division covering major global breaking-news events, including time on the White House beat. During the early evolution of digital streaming, she joined Yahoo! to help launch the first live broadband financial news channel, then returned to ABC to build, program, and launch ABC News Now, the network’s 24-hour digital news service, where she oversaw the editorial direction and full programming slate.
Lynch is the founder of Scéal Films, an independent development banner through which she originates select documentary, book-to-screen, live-event, and animation projects, structuring intellectual property and creative partnerships for premium distribution.
In addition, she currently serves as Communications Consultant for CV6 Therapeutics, an oncology biotechnology company advancing a first-in-class investigational therapy in Phase 1a clinical trials designed to enhance the effectiveness of one of the most widely used chemotherapy backbones in global cancer care, representing a potential impact across millions of patients worldwide. She leads corporate narrative and branding for the organization and its leadership.
A proud daughter of a U.S. Army Vietnam War helicopter pilot, Lynch served seven years on the board of the MVAT Foundation and has consulted with USC’s Institute for Creative Technologies on virtual-reality treatments for post-traumatic stress.
