Dan Kinsella is an American actor based in Los Angeles. Raised in Hartford, CT, as the second oldest of seven siblings, Dan began performing by making his older brother’s friends laugh to avoid trouble. He attended Central Connecticut State University, earning a BA in Graphic Design with a minor in Painting, entertaining fellow art students between classes with impressions of various art professors. After college, Dan worked as a graphic designer and mapper while moonlighting as a comedian before moving to New York City to pursue stand-up comedy. His home base was the Original Improvisation, and he performed at numerous NYC comedy clubs, including The Comic Strip, Catch a Rising Star, and Stand Up NY. During this time, he also studied the Meisner Technique and scene study with renowned acting coach JoAnna Beckson. After spending twelve years in New York, he relocated to Los Angeles to focus on film and television work.
Dan has performed coast to coast as an actor, comedian, and musician, with appearances in film, television, and commercials. His TV credits include How I Met Your Father, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Terms of Engagement, and the Netflix miniseries Griselda. His film work features The Dandies, Cha Zhen, and Adam McKay’s Vice. On stage, Dan has appeared in numerous plays in NYC and Los Angeles, as well as countless variety, sketch, and improv shows. During his time in NYC, he wrote and performed a character-driven one-man show, I’m Not Sayin’, I’m Just Sayin’, toured nationally as a stand-up comedian, and played harmonica with bands both live and in the studio. He continues to act, coach actors, and play music.
