Bill Mondy grew up in Rochester, New York, as the youngest of three brothers. His father, Don, was a WWII fighter pilot stationed in Germany and later worked on the railroad. It was in Germany that Don met Bill's mother, Wilhelmine. Bill describes his childhood as average in grades, sports, and appearance until he was encouraged to audition for a school play, which sparked his passion for acting.
He started the process of joining the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) but entered a nationwide acting competition instead, winning a full scholarship to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where he earned a BFA. Later, he received an MFA with a full scholarship from New York University's Graduate Acting program, known for producing Oscar, Emmy, and Tony award-winning actors.
After graduation, Bill remained in New York, performing off-Broadway in a revival of Lanford Wilson's The Rimers of Eldritch at The Second Stage. He took on leading roles in regional theaters nationwide, including Arena Stage, Actor's Theatre of Louisville, Huntington Theatre in Boston, and South Coast Repertory. When his agent relocated to Los Angeles, Bill followed and started working in film and television.
He has portrayed various roles such as cops, killers, and villains on TV shows like LA Law, Touched By an Angel, and UC Undercover. He also played aliens on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Crusade, and Andromeda, with recurring parts on Blade: The Series, Reunion, Smallville, and appeared in nearly 40 episodes of The Dead Zone as Deputy Roscoe alongside Anthony Michael Hall.
His film work includes The Crow: Salvation, I Spy with Owen Wilson and Eddie Murphy, and Miracle starring Kurt Russell.
In addition to his on-camera work, Bill began his voice-over career when a friend needed someone to record AM radio medical ads after losing an announcer.
Since then, he has narrated numerous shows such as Missing Persons: The First 48 on A&E, Last Day of the Dinosaurs on Discovery, Edge of War on Military Channel, China's Warrior King for National Geographic, and The Hunt for Dark Matter on CuriosityStream. Bill has voiced many radio, television, and digital campaigns and created characters for animated series including Mr. Black and Brain Freezer on Johnny Test, Memnock on Supernoobs, and Burnt Oak on My Little Pony. He has also served as a promo voice for Disney and CBS.
Currently, Bill focuses primarily on voice work, splitting his time between Los Angeles and his home studio in Kauai, Hawaii.
